As global leader in developing software and hardware components of Automatic Number Plate Recognition – ANPR – standalone products and comprehensive systems. We at ARH always keep an eye on future trends of traffic technology. Let us share this Tech Brief with you.

Starting this month, Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority is piloting new smart technology built into vehicle license plates. The new plates are fitted with digital screens, GPS and transmitters.
The new plates contact first responders when a crash occurs, they allow real-time communication with traffic authorities and the payment of parking fees. It is still unclear what communication channels will be used by the new digital vehicle number plates. We are curious to see the outcome of the trial period, expected to be completed in November.
In fact, ARH has contributed to ANPR systems used in Dubai. With market presence in the UAE since 1999, ARH can currently distinguish 472 vehicle plate types in the country. ARH’s ANPR solutions have been serving as a strong backbone of systems approved by SIRA (Security Industry Regulatory Agency of Dubai – formerly known as DPS).

Whichever way the future of number plate industry goes, we see technological changes as opportunities – smart vehicle plates fit into ARH’s Smart City vision. Intelligent Traffic Systems have long been an integral part of our portfolio. We foresee a digital traffic ecosystem where smart units communicate with each other. Who would have thought that vehicle license plates are the next in the IoT revolution?
